Myrl C. Hendershott is a professor of oceanography in the Integrative Oceanography Division and chair of the Graduate Department at Scripps Institution of Oceanography at the University of California, San Diego. He specializes in the study of long-period ocean waves.

Born in Lander, WY, Hendershott received a BS in physics from the University of Wyoming. He studied physics at Harvard University, earning an MS and a PhD.

While at Harvard, he served as a teaching fellow and research assistant, then spent one year as a Sverdrup Postdoctoral Fellow at Scripps. He joined the Scripps faculty and has been been graduate chair.

Hendershott is a member of Phi Beta Kappa, Sigma Xi, and the American Geophysical Union. He received the A. B. Wood Medal and Prize from the Institute of Physics of London. He has published nearly 100 scientific papers and reports.
